John Barkus is an Accredited Family Law Specialist who has been described by the influential Legal Profiles publication as “by far the best family lawyer in Australia”.

John was admitted to practice in the UK in 1977 and in NSW and the High Court of Australia in 1978. He has also been admitted to practice in Victoria.

John founded the firm in 1993 and has practiced exclusively in family law since 1980. John's practice services 'blue chip' clients with an emphasis on major property settlement matters. He specialises in acting for clients in the entertainment industry, along with professional and business clientele.

John has appeared for many high profile clients and acted in reported decisions on lump sum maintenance, setting aside property and maintenance agreements, for third party companies and trusts in family law disputes, and in international child abduction cases.

John has practised family law both in Australia and the United Kingdom. John has previously been a member of the New South Wales Law Society Family Law Committee, the New South Wales LawCover Claims Committee, and is a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia. He is also a member of the Law Society of England & Wales.

John has spoken on family law issues to a variety of professional groups, and authored numerous articles in legal and commercial publications.
